The skeletons have been a firm favourite with children since 2007. This is thanks in no small part to the American animated film Coco, directed by Adrian Molina and Matthew Aldrich.
This is the story of Miguel Rivera, a 12-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a guitarist, but his family forbids it. On the Day of the Dead, he decides to show off his talents. But to do so, he has to borrow the guitar of Ernesto de la Cruz, his late idol, from his mausoleum. Trying out the guitar on a path covered in Indian rose petals, he found himself propelled into the Land of the Dead.
To escape, Miguel must do everything in his power to obtain the blessing of one of his ancestors before dawn. Otherwise, it will be stuck there forever in the state of a skeleton. He comes across the skeleton of Imelda, Coco’s mother. She agreed to give him her blessing only if he gave up his dream of becoming a musician, but he refused; He needs to find Ernesto and get his blessing quickly. In this adventure he is helped by Hector’s skeleton.
Nevertheless, Miguel mistakenly believes that Ernesto is his ancestor. In the end, the little boy discovers that Hector is his real great-great-grandfather and that he did not abandon his wife and daughter, but was killed by Ernesto. He then obtained Hector’s blessing, as well as Imelda’s.
When he gets home, Miguel rushes off to sing Coco the song Hector wrote for her before she forgets all about him. Coco remembers the song and becomes active again. This is what motivated Miguel’s family to let him play music.
Skeleton colourings can be downloaded and printed. You can do it for free to please your children, who love Miguel’s story.
